Fool's Moon

There's something I've been meaning to say,
We can't keep going on this way,
And I won't have you wondering, And I won't have you stay,
So get up and be on your way,

But can you make your own way to the door?
This shame's got me pinned to the floor,
And there won't be good reason to come back here for,
Just an old dog licking his sores,

I don't think I was born to love you,
And loneliness is heart-shaped, I'm sure,
Now there's a Fool's Moon rising behind me,
And a fool's wolf at my door

There've been skeletons here for a while,
All lining the walls of your aisles,
And there's no point in digging up more bones to file
when we're already 'neath the dustpile,

I've been biting my tongue for some time,
Those bullets don't taste like your spine,
And I hear late at night you've been curled up and crying,
One thing we're no short on is signs,

I don't think I was born to love you,
And loneliness is heart-shaped, I'm sure,
Now there's a Fool's Moon rising behind me,
And a fool's wolf at my door

And it's you that I don't recognise,
You're dressed in demure demise,
And I'm clawing my way through ceremonious capsize,
Without a whimper of surprise,

So after thinking the whole damn thing through,
I'm pointing you toward something new,
And I'm sorry there's no compromise that'll do,
I just need, I just need to forget about you
And let the Fool's Moon that's been rising behind me
Rise up behind me no more.
